Natural Fabric Dyeing + Eco Prints Workshop
Learn how to:
Dye natural fabric such as cotton, hemp, wool, linen, and more
Make simple dye baths with locally grown & wild and exotic plants to create a whole palette of colors
Use mordants to make the fabric colorfast, so that the color won't fade as quickly
How to work with different botanicals to get the desired pigments including blue Indigo vats
How to work with PH and reagents to shift the colour of the dye bath to achieve unique shades.
Learn different methods to create eco-prints and specific mordants to use to prevent the prints from fading
Along with tie dye & clay resist prints
To inspire creativity, plenty of demonstrations, as well as samples of dyed and printed fabric & clothing will be shown. Participants are encouraged to take photos.
Get hands-on experience:
In class you will create flower-leaf prints on a cloth napkin to take home (all materials provided)
A step-by-step guide with resources is included and unlimited access to ask questions after class when working on future projects
The workshop will be taught by Ruby Martin from Ruby’s Healing Garden in Calgary. After many hours spent on trial & error, Ruby found easy, time-saving, high-quality formulas so that you can get an easy start on this beautiful craft rooted in ancient history and cultures.
