Fireweed Farm & School is located on a ½ acre plot at The Sandown Centre for Regenerative Agriculture, situated on the traditional lands of the Tseycum First Nation in what is now called North Saanich, Vancouver Island, BC.

This land carries a complex history. Appropriated by settlers in the 1850s, it became part of the 500+ acre Glamorgan Farm before being developed into the Sandown Racetrack in the 1950s. After over 50 years as a horse racing facility, the land was transferred to the District of North Saanich in 2017. Thanks to significant community advocacy, Sandown is now a hub for food production, education, and ecological stewardship.

Regenerating the Land

In 2020, the Sandown gates were opened to a group of emerging farmers, including Fireweed Farm. The soil, compacted and depleted from its racetrack days, has begun its healing journey through the power of nature. Even before we arrived, plants and animals were revitalizing the site.

Inspired by the resilience and renewal of fireweed itself, we strive to heal the land while engaging others in the process of regenerative agriculture.

At Fireweed Farm, we prioritize soil health, biodiversity, and ecosystem restoration through regenerative farming practices. By nurturing a balanced soil-food web rich in minerals, organic matter, and life, we cultivate nutrient-dense food, potent medicinal herbs, and a deeper connection to the land's beauty and vitality.

A Place for Connection and Growth

We grow a diverse range of crops, including culinary and medicinal herbs, berries, flowers, and specialty plants. The farm also features a thriving plant nursery and serves as a space for education, community-building, and creativity. From workshops and u-pick days to fresh flowers and herbal goods, Fireweed Farm & School is a place for learning, healing, and growing together.

We are honored to be part of this land’s transformation and look forward to sharing its abundance with our community.

Prior to its move to Sandown, Fireweed Farm & School and was owned by herbalist and teacher Jessy Delleman. In 2020 Jessy moved to the Comox Valley, where she continues to operate her seed and medicine business Ravensong Seeds & Herbals.
